Drayton Middlesex
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 01:56 BST (UK) »
One of my ancestors Mary ANDERSON b. 1843/44 later after 1867 Mary MARTIN her birthplace is recorded Drayton, Middlesex.  I obtained the place of birth from 1871 & 61 census.

Is Drayton the same as West Drayton today or does it refer to another place?  I understand that there is a Drayton Green towards Ealing could this have any bearing on the location? ???

As of yet I have not been able to trace Mary ANDERSON definitively in the 1851 census as I have no knowledge of whom her parents were.

Did she marry George MARTIN in 1867, if so looks like her fathers name is Joseph ANDERSON (Labourer, deceased at wedding).

I think I have found her;

1861 Mary is a servant in the Evitt household in Staines, Middlesex, born Drayton abt 1844.
RG9/765/52/2

1851 she is with her Mother Mary and siblings. Back soon with full Census details.

Trish :)

1851 Census
HO107/1698/71/35
Kings Arms Lane,
Heston, Middlesex

Mary ANDERSON, 39, Widow, Receipt of Parish Relief, Mid/Toddington
Frances..., 9, dau, At Home, born Mid/Drayton
Plisa(sic).., 7, dau, Scholar, Drayton
MARY ANN ANDERSON, 5, dau, born Drayton
William..., 4, son, Drayton
Elizabeth.., 11mths, born Heston

Unfortunately I searched for a death of Joseph in Brentford reg district that Heston is in, 1850-1851 and the only ones I found were late 1851.
There are a couple of other possibilities one in St Pancras Sept 1949 but that would be cutting it fine for Mary snr to be preganant and give birth to Elizabeth 1850 ;)

By the age of Mary snr in 1851 there could be older children who have left home by 1851.

I will see if I can find Joseph/Mary in 1841 Census and Marriage.

Cheers,
Trish

If you search FreeBMD, births 1840-1850, Anderson, Uxbridge, all counties, several births come up that correspond with 1851 Census I found.
I found the reg district whilst trying to find birth reg for Frances Anderson born abt 1842. I tried that one as it was the least common name.

Also this;
Mary Ann ANDERSON, December 1845, Uxbridge, 3 355

FreeBMD Marriages
There is a marriage for Mary ANDERSON Sep 1867 Chelsea district, it's transcribed incorrectly (missing part of the vol no, I'll have a look and see if I can correct it)
Added film on Ancestry show the same marriage reference 1a 466 as per George MARTIN
Film on FREEBMD is only showing a 466

Marriages Sep 1867 Chelsea 1a 466
MARTIN George
(one female missing this reference)

Thanks Mick :)

Do you think the Census stuff I found is possibly her?
Age is a little out though.

Thankyou to both bickermickau & trish1120 for your enthusiastic research.  Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner.

bikermickau thanks for the marriage details.  I suspected they were married at St Simon Zelotes because of their address in the 1871 census in ecclesiastical parish of St Simon.  To know both their fathers names & occupations will be a boon to my research, thanks.

trish1120 I had found the census HO107/1698 aswell sometime ago but wasn't 100% about it because of the age discrepancy you refer to.  I tried to use the siblings from this census to locate older siblings not living with their mother in 1851.  This seemed to yeild results (see RG 9/764) with an older brother named Joseph living at Dawley in the parish of Harlington.  If they are the same individuals (Frances & William) their birthplace has been recorded as Heston rather than Drayton.

I'm curious whether Drayton would be in the parish of Heston?  any ideas?

Derwentwater.
