It looks as if the above marriage is correct as I found this marriage which explains Bardara's niece relationship in 1900,

Charlotte BRAND  age:23
Father:  James
Mother:  Barbara DUNCAN
Marriage:  23 JUN 1880 New York, New York
Spouse:  Wm. A. THOMPSON  age:25
Father:  John W.
Mother:  Emaline JONES

It's the 1890 census that was burnt so don't give up hope about the 1900 :)

Ooooo Daisy - how exciting well done.  :D

What a pity about the 1890 - that might have pointed us in the right direction.  :-\

At least we have something more to go on thanks to your efforts.

Kind regards

Hi canal woman
when you say James 'give his father as Gus Dailey' on what document is this please?  Does it give any other information that might be relevant.

The only James Daly of about the right age without parents (as the others have different parents to Gus and Maria) is an inmate in the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin Borough of Richmond NY 1900 although it gives his parents places of birth as Delaware, so I guess that rules him out  ???

Hello

Document is the marriage of James Joseph in 1923 in West Derby  [age given as 31 ]Father is called Gus Dailey and occupation is carpenter [ but he is deseased] [also have sons birth cert and again those are the names he uses!]

Thing is, James Joseph appears to come into England via Liverpool   on a boat!!  and then marries and then    disappears .......................
where to?? we have no idea........... so it is rather a quest

so although  you think that maybe the James you have found is not right  it could be that he is the one!
as yet it is early days to be making judgement........
do we know how old this James you have found is???

[that James Joseph changes his name to Dailey when he comes to England is really at this point in time inmaterial.]

so any input would be very welcome

It says his birth was November 1891 aged 8 at school.
Unfortunately there is no other information about him.

I'll keep looking though.  Thanks for the additional information it might help.

Sue  thats fantastic......

does it give brothers sisters at all??
so that we can link him to the family of Gus in the 1880 census.......

The whole excersise here is to establish that a  ] he was American     b] had family    and   c] what happened to him after the age of 16/18 when he becomes his own person......

was he married already when he married in 1923??? etc

but the info from you today has been just great

Thankyou  very much.

 sallie

Hi sallie
I didn't see brothers or sisters, but will take another look this afternoon (off for a hair- do soon).

I wonder what happened to Charlotte the other daughter?

We could do with someone looking up deaths for Augustus and Marie and a birth of James Joseph.
Unfortunately I'm limited to one site with USA info and census on.
I'll look on passenger ships too.

Be back later.
