English newspapers?
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 09:12 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Is it possible to read old English newspapers - e.g. early 1800s - online please.   If so are they a good source of information - for trials. death notices, marriages etc.    I've been looking at old papers in Tasmania, Australia at beginning of 1800s but as there were very few white people around, it is relatively easy to find who you are looking for if they appear in the papers.

What is the situation in England at the time - and where does one go to find relevant papers if they are there?

Hi Wiggy

As an Australian resident you can access the 19th Century British Newspapers, and others, online through the National Library of Australia. You need to apply for a library card using the link below, it is sent to your home address and then you can access the databases.

The link below takes tou to a list of licenced databases you will be able to access
