1851 census Stoke Upon Trent Look-up Please
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 16:38 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I did put a request in along time ago for a look up on the 1851 census for Stoke upon Trent for a Maria Hargreaves and someone found a Richard Benson who married a Maria Hargreaves, on the Staffordshire BMD and then found the corresponding 1851 census for them but I now believe that it wasn't my Maria.

I have found a death for a Maria Hargreaves 1852 Stoke upon Trent Qtr June Vol 6b and I was wondering if she is the same Maria Hargreaves on the 1851 census b abt 1816 Staffordshire.

Would someone please have a look for me and I am sorry that I haven't got much information to go on. I do know that her maiden name was Cockson and that she married John Hargreaves 18 Feb 1835 in Hanley.
I would of had a look myself on Find My Past but they have'nt got Staffordhire on their 1851 census yet.

I will look forward to any replies
Kind regards
Wendy

Hiya Wendy

On the 1851 for Richard and Maria Benson her children from the previous marriage are there

Charles b 1835
John b 1837

Their baptisms are on the IGI parents John and Maria - are you sure this isnt the correct Maria?

There is also a Maria baptised 2.4.1852 - could she have died young and this is the death in 1852?

Best way to be sure would be to order the Richard Benson marriage certificate

Hi Willow,

I haven't got the marriage certificate for Richard Bedson and Maria Hargreaves but I do have the information from their marriage which states

Married 06 March 1848
Richard Bedson, Widower, a Potter, Chesterton Father John Bedson, a Potter
Married Maria Hargreaves, widower, Chesterton, Father George Taylor, Labourer
Witnesses George Vigers and Martha Rhodes
Also
Mary Taylor Married John Hargreaves 03 Oct 1815 in Stoke Upon Trent

I am not sure on where to go next. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Wendy
