MOFFAT from Christchurch

I'm looking for

1/ the burial place of Joseph MOFFAT-
born 19/01/1854, Catterlen Cumberland England and dead  in Chrischurch (according to my informations) in 1932.
Joseph was a miller and he married Ellen Elizabeth GASKELL in 1876.
He emigrated to NZ in 1876 and built his 1st water mill at Annat in 1887
nb- (I've searched Xchurch cemetery database online without success)

2/ I'm searching for John and Ellen Elizabeth  children descent .. I know he had 8 children but got trouble to track them via BDM and especially Otto Cyril Cuthbert MOFFAT (John youngest son)

Hi there,

According to BDM Historical index he died 17/7/1932 and the surname is MOFFATT Joseph

1932 #8217 Moffatt Joseph aged 78 years

I wonder if he is buried in a church yard as you said he is not in the Christchurch City Council database

It might be him (yes MOFFAT is also spelt MOFFATT .. I have many cases even amongst sibling) .. the age fit ...

Hi there,

Have checked the burial locator and he is buried in St Peters Churchyard, Upper Riccartion, Christchuch. This is near Church Corner.

There are two other people buried there as well with the same surname.

I tracing now the whereabout of Joseph children and the mills Joseph did own in Christchurch ... I found something in Hazealroad and in Darfield

I wonder if their children were baptized in a church.  There might be names in the Church card index at the Christchurch Central Library

This is one way to check as it is hard with no parents names on the BDM site before 1875/76

Maybe someone can check for  you as not sure when I shal be next there.

Hi there I have found 7 out of 8 on the BDM site, if you search from 1878 to 1900 and just put in the mother's name you should see them all.

If you don't let me know and I will list them for you
