Vizor 1875 onwards
« on: Saturday 17 October 09 17:31 BST (UK) »
Looking for any members of the Vizor family that emigrated to Canada from 1875 onwards from the wiltshire/Gloucester area of England.

Particularly looking for Jane Vizor who may have travelled after 1881 from England to the Manitoba area.

Many thanks

Caroline

You probably know about these sites, but including them in case you don't.  I have not taken the time to look for any Vizor's.

Would you have a date of birth for Jane, please?

Hi - thank you. She is shown as being aged 30 in the 1881 UK Census but as yet I have been unable to trace a birth or baptism record to verify this.

Hi Caroine:

I don't have access to Canadian immigration records, but I tried a search for Jane (no surname), born 1851 (+/- 5 years) in England, arriving 1901 (+/- 20 years).  There were 58 results, but I do not see anything close to a Vizor.

I also tried immigration records for arrival in America, except using born 1851 (+/- 2 years) and do not see any names starting with V that are similar to Vizor.  There were too many results to have checked for _izor spellings (something other than V for the first letter).

Sorry.

I'm assuming that the Jane Vizor you are looking for is working as a domestic at Hunter's Hall Farm in 1881 for the Ward family and showing a birth location of Easton Grey Malmsbury, Wiltshire.

If this assumption is correct have you considered that the 70 year old domestic Jane Vizor b. Easton Grey Malmsbury on the 1891 census working for the same family is actually your 40 year old Jane with a misinterpretation of how the numbers look on the census?

The name Vizor seems to have so many spelling variations.  If you look at the births in Malmsbury around 1850 there is one for Emily Jane Vizard Mar 1851 Malmsbury 8 402.
Perhaps yours?

For the family of Walter and Elizabeth Vizor on the 1861 census in Easton Grey there are 3 children listed Emily(10), Thomas (6) and Albert W. (2).
There is a birth registration for Albert Walter Vizard Sept 1858 Malmsbury 5a 44 and on the 1881 census Walter and Elizabeth are living with son Albert Walter (20).
Son Thomas seems to be registered Dec 1856 Malmsbury 5a 30 under Tom Vizer

I'm not sure if this is the family of your Jane but it does illustrate the spelling variations of the name.

Hi Debbie and all  :)

have you considered that the 70 year old domestic Jane Vizor b. Easton Grey Malmsbury on the 1891 census working for the same family is actually your 40 year old Jane with a misinterpretation of how the numbers look on the census?

We'd come to a similar conclusion on this thread, though the other way round i.e. that the Jane Vizor shown age 30 on the 1881 census probably actually was the Jane Vizor born ca. 1817

Tati - looks as if you have looked at all possibilities for Jane but Caroline is still pursuing the idea that Jane left with Harriet's husband.  That piece of the puzzle would have been good to have known.

I have been assured that the images for 1881 and 1891 for Jane Vizor show ages as 30 and 70 quite clearly - does anyone have the 1891 image please?
This is sending me crazy-especially in light of all the variations on the spelling of the surname! I only jumped to the aforementioned possible conclusion when I discovered that not only could I not find walter beaven ward after 1881 but it would seem that I was possibly struggling to find a Jane Vizor (born c 1851) after 1881 as well!
Help please!!

Many thanks
Caroline
