New Zealand Gazette Patents listings

I'm trying to find an online resource for the New Zealand Gazette. I've come across a reference in the Star newspaper of 17 October 1899 to a patent application  that was listed in the Gazette. The application was by JW Stonyer of Linwood, and was for improvements to a self-feeder for an agricultural drill.

Does anyone know if there's online access to the Gazette archives that I can use? I've tried using the Archway, but there's nothing there, and the NZ patents site doesn't give any hits either (although I might be using it wrong, it's not unknown  )

World vital records only has them online to 1886 and Colonial books free index only goes up to earlier years as well.
The Treasury in Thames has some old books, I'm not sure if they are gazette, I'll look tomorrow and let you know

PS a google shows that many larger libraries have full archives of the gazettes

Stupid me, I went to look today and thinking they would have an index, didn't not dates other than year...so seeing now the newspaper ref was OCt, I'll retry before that date tomorrow

My g g g grandfather partially patented an invention just before he died in 1898 and after a lot of research, i contacted Pipers Patent attorneys who sent me photocopies of the original lodgement of his claim!  I was stoked :-)  This was quite a few years back now, but if that was accessible then i'm sure they still are.  May be worth a go just contacting them to enquire.  Their contact address is

I know that NZ Gazettes are searchable online from 1993 at http://online.gazette.govt.nz/MSOS118/On-Line/NZGazette.nsf/vYearOfPublication?OpenView but i've not as yet come across them earlier online.
