no,it doesn't list other family members.the tithe's were a tax that was paid to the then established church;church of ireland.i haven't actually seen the books but they have been transcribed to different places but the transcriptions, that i've seen, only state the persons name and where they lived,which comes in useful if you are looking at the early 1800's and pre-griffiths. but definitely no other members of the household. the original books contain info like the size of the land and whatever crops were grew.

hi tony,  I know my ancestor was living in central armagh -he was an architect - in 1824 he was living in dawson street and then in 1846 he was living in beresford row, this information i got from Piggots and Slaters commercial directories of northern ireland.  how would you suggest i get sight of the title applotment books.  i live in wales and it is very difficult to get records relating to your irish ancestors
cheers cesca

i'm guessing you've done this already but have you searched the e-catologue in proni yet for sinclair?
http://applications.proni.gov.uk/LL_DCAL_PRONI_ECATNI/SearchPage.aspx
sinclair was building the primate's palace in the mid 1820's,or at least he was planning to.

i don't know where you would access the tithe's but i'd guess they would be in proni or the national library in dublin. someone on here will probably give you something more solid; hopefully.

tony just looked at the link you kindly sent me and i found reference to sinclair carroll relating to the proposals, estimates and specifications for the primate's palace, armagh.  it says the architect was william farrell and the buuilder was sinclair carroll - this was march 1826.  in slater's commercial directory of ireland 1846 sinclair carroll is listed as builder, architect and valuator living at beresford row, armagh, so obviously between 1826 when the primate's palace was built and 1846 he had progressed to being an architect.  i also know that he was responsible for building both newry and armagh workhouses in 1839 and 1840, so he must have been working his way up in the building world.

Hi Cesca,
it looks like Sinclair moved about Armagh quite a bit. He was living in college street when he was appointed as a special constable in january 1835;
http://www.rootschat.com/links/07br/

he's been on a couple of jury's as well;

Armagh Library might be worth a try to see if they have anything on Sinclair or the Irish and Local Studies Library,Abbey Street,Armagh.

thanks TF13, your links proved very fruitful.  didn't know that sinclair was a special constable, knew he had served on several juries.  also found reference to details of him relating to valuation for rates ireland 1838.  what exactly were the valuation for rates.  it says sinclair's house on beresford row had a net annual value of £43 and the gross annual value was £53.11.2.  i suppose that was alot of money in 1838
