Laetitia Burton marriage address in Boston
« on: Friday 23 October 09 17:39 BST (UK) »
Laetitia Burton married Richard Luffman in Boston in February 1895. Her address at the time was shown on the certificate as "Frampton Place, Boston".
Born in Pinchbeck she had returned to Lincolnshire the previous year from domestic service in the Isle of Wight probably due to the death of her father. She had no previous known association with Boston. Can anyone with access to the 1891 census tell me 1) Whether there appears to be a lodging house in Frampton Place at that time? or 2) Whether there is anyone preferably surnamed Burton or Stanton living in the street  with a birth place of Pinchbeck or Heckington? If so details would be most welcome; thanks.

Hi Roger

I've looked at Frampton Place, Boston in 1891 and there are no Stantons, or Burtons.  The head of household of Number 31 was a boarding house keeper, but she only had one lodger.  The street seems to be very mixed, with people's occupations ranging from all kinds of railway workers from guards, to porters etc. to dressmakers, milliners, pupil teachers, people living on their own means, wine merchants etc.  All apart from one house seemed to have only one family, or one person living in it.

What number was Laetitia at when she married?

Lizzie

When they were getting married did they not have to have residence in the place of marriage for several weeks for the banns in that parish church? She could therefore have been resident in the lodging house for this purpose to marry a Boston man.

Unfortunately I do not have the number of the house in Frampton Place, the certificate only shows the street name for herself and Richard (Blue St.) in 1891 he lived in Locomotive Street along with his then wife Elizabeth and 2 nurse children. I was looking for clues regarding Laetitia, but it does seem possible at least that she returned to Lincolnshire in connection with the death of her father, and lodged in Frampton Place prior to her marriage. The population of Frampton Place has the social profile I would have expected bearing in mind its proximity to the railway.
