Richard CRUST - possibly a son of Robert CRUST and Ann KESBY
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 08:10 GMT (UK) »
I have been researching the possibility that Robert CRUST (c1791-1868) and Ann KESBY (1784-1815) had a son, Richard. I know that Ann and Robert married 17 Oct 1813 and that Ann died in 1815. Robert subsequently married Ann BRENCHLEY (Ann(2)) 1 Jul 1832 and they had several children.

Richard CRUST (possibly the son of Ann and Robert) appears as follows:

1851 census, as son of Robert CRUST, age 37, with Robert, Ann(2) and family in Kingsnorth.

1861 census, as son of Robert CRUST, age 46, with Robert, Ann(2) and family in Kingsnorth.

1871 census as son in law (should be stepson?) of Ann CRUST, age 57, with Ann(2) in Kingsnorth (Robert CRUST died 1868)

1881 census, as head, age 64, with Ann(2) shown as mother in law (should be stepmother) in Great Chart.

1891 census as head, , age 77, with Ann(2) shown as stepmother in Great Chart.

Richard died in 1892. The informant was Robert CRUST, his brother.

This suggests to me that Richard CRUST was the son of Robert CRUST and Ann KESBY, and was born 1813 or 1814. Does anyone here have a view?

Jonathan

Back then the term son in law usually meant step son, similarly with mother in law.

Hi Jonathan

Where was Richard CRUST bc1814 supposedly born according to all the census and where did the marriages of his father, Robert, take place?

Hi Casalguidi

Richard's census birth town for each census record (1851 - 1891 inclusive) is Kingsnorth.

Robert married as follows:
m(1) Ann KESBY 17 Oct 1813 in Kingsnorth
m(2) Ann(e) BRENCHLEY 1 Jul 1832 in Mersham

Best wishes

Hi Jonathan,

I am working on the Kingsnorth records, haven't got as far as the 1830's yet,-its slow going but will look up what I have and send it to you. I have also worked on Ruckinge. Do you want the Crusts /Corusts from there too?

best wishes

Thanks Lis, that just what I wanted!  What is your source for this please?  I presume its a baptism not a birth(?).

Thanks again.  All the census records pointed to Richard being Robert's son, but I feel this confirms it.

Best wishes
