Looking for the COUGHLIN/CAUGHLAN family
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 10:42 GMT (UK) »
Patrick COUGHLIN was a Private in the 4th Light Dragoons from 1826 to 1851.   He was born c 1806 and his father was called Michael.   His wife, who he married in England, was called Jane.

Patrick gave his place of birth as Clonmore, Co. Wicklow when he enlisted, but Clonmore appears to be in C. Carlow.  I have posted on that board but have had no success, so I am wondering if I might get some help here!

Is there any chance that I can find out more about Patrick and his family?   I know that he was collecting his pension in Ireland at different times after he retired, so maybe he went home to Clonmore.   His daughter Jane Mary/Mary Jane was born in Ireland in 1854 according to the 1881 census and I imagine there would have been other children.

I shall be very grateful for any help or advice regarding how to proceed, bearing in mind that I don't live in Ireland.

Many thanks,

Diana
