occupiers of the smithy in Daresbury COMPLETE
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 07:51 GMT (UK) »
I am probably asking for a big slice of someones time, I am researching the occupiers of the smithy in Daresbury Cheshire as I served my time as a blacksmith there 1955 to 1961, it is no longer a working smithy and is operating as a mowing machine sales & repair business, I have spoken to the present owners without success, in fairness they have helped as much as they possibly can, if anyone could please check the censuses from 1841 to 1891 (excluding 1881 as Lizzie kindly gave me information for that year) it is only a small village and probably never had more than 150 people living there. The Cheshire Tithe maps 1836 - 1851 give a James Hamblett as the occupier but obviously no further details.
Thanks,
Algy

Tazzie thank you fro your kind assistance, would it be too much to ask you to look at the 1851 census as it is the only decade that I am missing.
Thank you again.
Algy.

Where there are the two blacksmiths in the early census this may help...

  1841   Hambletts in village
             Isaac Ellison in Runcorn
1851   Hamblett blacksmith               1861   Ellison   Blacksmith cottage
            house occ                                                        house occ
            village farm                                                    village farm
            house occ                                                      house occ
Isaac Ellison & fam occ                                   house occ
                                                                     Hamblett Richard's family
may help pin point the correct position of the smithy as they both traded seperately.

Tazzie thank you for all the work, time and information I really could not have done it without you, I have achieved my objective and have sufficient information to complete a potted history of Daresbury smithy.
All the very best to you and all you care for.
Algy.
