hi i just cant get to grips with the irish ancestry, i always end up stuck. anyone know any good webasites for irish census
hi can anyone find a marriage between alexander roberts and fanny phillips before 1825, they had a son john roberts in 1825. i dont know where abouts in ireland.

The 1911 Irish census is available (free) on the National Archives website at : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/  They are planning to add the 1901 data by early next year

To find a marriage before civil registration started (1864) you will require parish records. You will need to know the families religion and the parish(es) the marriage and baptism took place. note that not all these early parish records have survived.

Also, 1901 census is 1st complete census for Ireland- only small fragment of earlier ones for a few places survive.
As with searching for church records, you really need a location in Ireland to start looking for any existing records.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
