John Helm (deceased) mariner 1880

I have had this wall for some time and I'm hoping someone can cast me a line.
The marriage cert states Frederick Boase m Sarah Helm 1880 L'Pool. Sarah's father is John Helm(deceased)Mariner.
It is John Helm I am trying to find some information on.
From the cert I have traced a witness Jane Brookes, the 1881 has her married to a George Brookes their address was 98 Robsart St L'Pool.  This address was also where Frederick Boase was residing on the cert 1880.
Went to Lancs bmd and found Jane's maiden name was Helm, she married George Brookes 1879, so she could be Sarah's sister.
I have a couple of possibles for John Helm but no marriage and no real concrete evidence to pursue. Any ideas as to which route to take would be very gratefully received.

She is 23 on the cert, Jane 20 in 1881 was born in L'Pool, so presume Sarah also.

Hi,

 

There is this from the 1861 census.  Helm has been transcribed as Helma and the two youngest children transcribed as Kelson  .  Had a look at the original and the name looks like Helm with "a" crossed out and then to me the name of the two youngest looks like Helm.  The other problem John Helm's occupation is labourer to corporation and not mariner  .  Anyway, thought it was worth posting despite all this.
