Looks like at birth through to after 1851 there is a different name, for some reason.

Perhaps Elizabeth was living with someone (H's actual father?) and used his name. But when they seoarated she reverted to her own name, Henry used it too, and he invented a nice glamourous sounding Dad for his marriage rather than admit to being illegitimate.

But who knows?

There are some Edward Henrys born Brighton c1849, one of them Edward Henry Jenner has a mother Elizabeth born c1824 in Middlesex Aldgate she says she is married but no husband around. I can't see them after 1851 but can't see a marriage for Elizabeth Jenner to Armstrong either  >:( ;D

Thanks all ... no wonder I cant work it out!!!
1851 - I cant see a Henry born 1846ish with father Henry. This coupled with the fact that there also isnt a birth for him in 1846ish shows that we cant assume these facts are correct.
HE b about 1848 as b on m.cert shows age 26 in July 1874.

So lets take a step back - who does Henry junior marry? Have you found him on censuses after marriage - if so what does HE say for date and place of birth? If not, that is where we must start.
HE married Rose Skinner 1874; and have found them on 1881 c living at32 Centurion Rd, as mentioned in a post above.

I did have an Edward (now changed to Henry after receiving m cert for HE)  linked to an Elizb. Stocker b Middlesex, Hamlet Towers. BUT I think this is the wrong link!    so have dismissed it.

Might be worth hanging onto the details somewhere just in case. This is all very complicated ??? ;D

I am still very taken with Elizabeth Jenner I found - she is the right age and Aldgate is in Tower Hamlets, so right place of birth. Her son Edward Henry is right age and right place of birth. Will look into her some more and get back to you.

Yes Jan .... have kept details for Eliz. Stocker but just broken link with Henry A.  Also the Edward (wrong name) was linked to a Harriet Prout, same area marriage same time.
All this changed when I received M cert for HE to establish 'fathers' details.

OK Ian, looks as if your Elizabeth Stocker is out of the picture but I will keep digging on Elizabeth Jenner :D

for what it is worth I too found the Elizabeth Jenner with young Edward and was quite taken with it ... but then saw Jan had found it too and posted... so we were thinking on same lines.

Maybe she didnt marry Armstrong. Or maybe she WAS Armstrong and used Jenner for a while whilst hanging out with him (around 1851ish) , then reverted to Armstrong when he disappeared of the scene. Young Edw/Hen never knew his father and so made up a nice sounding one when he married.

Oh dear, I am always making up different scenarios, but proving which one (if any) was the case is another matter!
