Personal messages

Moderators quite rightly remove email addresses from board messages, and tell posters to send a personal message with the email address.

Why then when I do just that does Rootschat delete half the address making it useless. Not only that, to add insult to injury it tells the recipient that my message is spam!

eg

My email is david**********@THIS IS SPAM DELETE THIS WHOLE MESSAGE

David

My email is held at THIS IS SPAM DELETE THIS WHOLE MESSAGE

David

You see it's done it again! If Rootschat is programmed to assume that all messages that come from y**oo.fr are spam then it needs to rethink

Happy to hold the other end of your anti-discrimination protest banner, David! ;D

What's the problem with yahoo France as opposed the other yahoos then? Do we send more spam from here?  ???

David,

Well, first of all, sorry about all that!

Yes, you're right. I rethought, and removed the block. You should be able to send your email address in Personal Messages now without the spam message.

The block was put in place some time ago when we were getting hammered by spammers registering and using yahoo.fr email addresses. They were then posting these addresses on RootsChat, both as posts and in personal messages as part of spam messages. The messages were all very similar and worded in a convincing way like all "good" (bad) spam is. The measure of blocking this was taken to protect RootsChat users as a whole.

Now that you have highlighted it, we have however removed that level of protection. If however the problem recurs then we will have to reinstate it, if that's the case then we may be able to find a way around it for you.

So that's hopefully good news for you!
