Hi, I am new to RootsChat and I have a query I hope someone can help with.
I am trying to find the Church that my husband's family would have gone to.
We have an extract of entry in the register of marriages:
Registrar's District of Armagh
1878, Marriage solemnized in the First Presbyterian Church at Armagh in the Parish of Armagh in the County of Armagh
Between John McLaughlin - Farmer - Carrowmoney, Parish of Mullabrack - father, Alexander McLaughlin, Farmer
Ann Jane Farley - Glassdrummond - father, George Farley, Farmer
That sounds pretty categorical doesn't it. But there are some other confusing details. In the 1911 census the family are recorded as Church of Ireland. They lived in the Townland of Carrowmoney in the parish of Mullaghbrack, sub district of Markethill. I have found Church of Ireland churches for both Mullaghbrack and Markethill. I think I have ruled out the first and second presbyterian churches of Markethill because it has marriage and birth records online covering a number of years and my family are not mentioned.
We will be in Ireland early next year, on holiday from Australia and would really love to find out more about the family.
Can anyone shed any light on what would have been the nearest Church for the family to attend.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
Linda
