My Great Grandmother was Millie Mellodew (maiden name) her sisters were Florence and May Mellodew. Any info on the origin of the surname MELLODEW much appreciated.

According to Lancashire BMD, the Mellodews in the 19th century were concentrated in Oldham, Bury and Rochdale

Free BMD only lists one Milly Mellodew, married Sept Qtr 1901 in the Bury registration district

In the 17th & 18th centuries there are Melledews, Melladews and Mellowdews in Bury, Rochdale, Middleton and surrounding area

Hello Alice,

According to SurnameDB, MELLOWDEW, MELLADEW, MERRIDEW etc. are variations of a Welsh surname.

Wales is not so far away from Lancashire.
