Hi Ann

The IGI has a christening (extracted record) for Thomas Sneaton Loftus 2 April 1753 son of William.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for this :)  I am struggling to determine if Sneaton/Sneton are different lines or they are one and the same ???

I have them in Whitby, Fylingdales, Ugglebarnby, Sneaton and Loftus :-\

Looking for the parents ??? of Thomas Sneaton married Elizabeth Williamson on 14 Oct 1775 in the village of Sneaton.  Son Thomas Sneaton 1787 married Ann Parkes 30 Dec 1816 at St Mary's Whitby.

You're welcome Ann  ;)

I have Sneatons in my family from Whitby too -
Mary Sneaton born 14.7.1780 daughter of William Sneaton and Miriam Saunderson who were married 2.6.1770 in Whitby.
Mary married John Nicholson and these are my 4x Gt Grandparents

Do any of these sound familiar?  I don't (at the mo) have a Thomas Sneaton anywhere but I will look through my old notes later today in case I have noted anything down on my travels through the Parish Records.  I;m sure we must be connected somewhere!!  ;D

Hi Susan,

Thank you for the reply :)

It seems unlikely that we do not connect somewhere along the way :-\.  I've been looking through my notes, Thomas and Joseph seem to be the chosen names in my line.  Funny though because I have not ruled out the IGI has a christening (extracted record) for Thomas Sneaton Loftus 2 April 1753 son of William.  Your John Nicholson and Mary when did they marry ???

John and Mary married 23 Sept 1801 at St Mary's Whitby
The witnesses were Samuel Foster and Ann Longbottom

I haven't had a chance yet to look through my notes but I promise I will.

Incidentally my William Sneaton and Miriam Saunderson had 9 children -all baptised in Whitby- 7 of them died as infants.  One child (Robert bap 20 Dec 1785) I have not been able to find after his baptism so not sure what happened to him.  My Mary eventually died in 1845 in Whitby having been widowed in 1823.

My William was a carpenter and an innkeeper.  He's the only Sneaton that I have an occupation for.  John Nicholson who Mary Sneaton married was a master mariner.
