I also have a problem with researching my Irish family.
There is a family who moved to Scotland the Head of the family is
Hugh Smith Wife Mary
I think my 3x grt grandad is with them as 11yr old
youngest child is hellen 1yr old.  renfrew census 1841 state Ireland with no county.
They are or became Scottish Presbyterians.
And I am having problems verifying that they are mine.  Have not found a birth for them in Scotland to help.  I think that Hellen was their last child.

So I think it would help me when they would be availble to view.  It would be nice to be able to get back past Hugh and Mary c.1820.

Duplicate post on Cavan board which is now locked-
Have just found some information which verifies that the family I found in Renfrew in 1841 from Ireland is my family.

have decided to see if any of their marriages show the county in ireland that they came from as the census does not state it.  Would you say that this could be the way to go.  Please advise.

Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages in Ireland started in 1845 (from 1864 for Catholic marriages) so you'll need to know the familys religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) so that you can start searching for church records (which may, or may not, exist).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
