Is 1911 census index still available free?COMPLETED THANKS

Hi,
   Can anyone tell me if the 1911 census index is accessible for free? I can't seem to access it at www.1911census.gov.uk but I am having connection problems. I know the transcripts are not free but I thought the index was free or did I dream it?!

Yes you can type in the details of a person and it will come up with possible matches, you then have to pay to see the transcript.

Yes, sorry not sure why I put gov.uk, but when I try the address you gave I get a message 'content encoding error - page cannot be shown because it uses invalid or unsupported form of compression - contact website owners!  Not sure how to contact them if I can't get a page up! It must be something to do with my computer then. I've been getting this message for weeks. Thanks for your reply.

I have just tried it and 1911 website working fine!....... so I am afraid it must be your computer!
You could try a post here on rootschat asking for help in tech queries.

Oh dear! When I started reading that I thought 'I'm sorted', but by the time I got to the end I knew I was stuffed! I think I will be visiting my son to check the 1911 census but thank you very much for the link.
