Birth lookup or census if possible.
« on: Saturday 21 November 09 17:04 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to obtain a birth certificate for Henry James McLean Ray. Born 1882/3 Dunbarton. Father Benjamin Ray, mother Louisa Ray formerly Fox.

Henrys parents were performers and travelled around England and Scotland most of their lives.  I have tried looking in Scotlalnds People but no luck.  The whole family are missing on the 1871 census records but I cannot find them on the Scottish one either. Although Henry wouldnt have been born in 1871 I know.
Could a child be born in Scotland and registered in England?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi ev
Thank you for your reply, that will be him.

Oh that looks very promising, yes the same family are down as Kay in 81. I am assuming (I know one shouldn't) that the name has been transcribed incorrectly in 1871, no amount of searching can find them. As they were perforners maybe they didint bother. Have found them in 41, 51, 61, 81, 91, 01 and 11, But no sign in 1871 will just keep trying.
Thank you once again for your help.

Hi,

I have recently started to look into my family history and started with a basic search. I searched Harry James McLean Ray, Dumbarton and came across this. I have the birth certificate for Harry James McLean Ray (father Benjamin Ray - comedian) from my Grandad. I think that Harry James McLean Ray (1882) is my Grandad's,  Grandfather? My Grandad is also call Harry James McLean Ray, as was his father.

Any information you have for me would be great!

Many thanks,
