1861 Census Greenwich please
« on: Friday 11 March 05 21:35 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for an entry for the Durell family in Church Street which I believe is St Pauls Deptford.

I have a death certificate dated 1863 for 190 Church Street so I am hoping the family were there in 1861 as well.

Many thanks

Thanks for your help Allan

Actually this isn't the family but every little helps!!

I am looking for ABBOTT DURELL and his family.  I know he died in 1863 in Church Street.  He was a stevedore on the death cert but on his son Abbott's wedding cert he was a Licensed Victualler (although he was dead).

PubsIndex have records of him being at the "Earl of Chatham" in Hughesfield in 1859 and "The White Swan" Wapping in 1855 but I can't find anything to confirm this.  I can't even find a marriage ref. and no reference on any of the census so far.

Even his son's birth doesn't seem to be listed although it states he was born in Bethnall Green on 1881 - the the family are listed as DUVELL!!

Thanks anyway

Hi Sue,

Do you have any more information on the John Lock yur're trying to find (approximate age or place of birth)?  Theren are a lot of John Locks in the Census!

Allan

Thanks for your reply.

"Our" John H Lock was born in Tavistock and is listed on the 1881 as living at 14 Napier Street, Deptford. I just wondered if he was in the same area 10 years earlier.

We think he moved to London c1861/2 with my gggrandmother (from Salcombe)who was only 14 at the time whereas he would have been 25,married with 2 children!!
