William Evans Innkeeper Swansea
« on: Friday 27 November 09 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi All, Have searched and searched, but can't find William Evans in 1901 census. This is the info for 1891 William Evans HM 39 Innkeeper born Swansea.Priscilla WM 28 or 23 born Swansea (think it should be Cornwall) Mary Ann d 3mths born Swansea. Can anyone help with this? Have also looked at 1911 census - no luck.

can't say I can spot him with any ease, but in case it helps, the inn he was keeping was the Coach & Horses. I've checked directories and he wasn't there in 1895 or 1889.

I did wonder about this death reg - can't see another Priscilla Evans in Glam in 1891.

There was a Coach and Horses pub on Wind Street ('wind' as in 'wind the bobbin') until the 1970s.

It is now the Piano and Pitcher (last time I looked!)

Sorry, I should have been more specific - it was the Coach & Horses in High Street.

Thanks for reply.  The 1891 census does give 132 High St.I hoped to find them in 1901 as I'm looking for Priscilla Rakes/ Raikes born 1884/5 Swansea. Mother died in 1891 and thought she may be with her Aunty Evans as I can't  find a death ref. for Priscilla Rakes, so I don't know if I have the right family at present.

she was registered Priscilla Louisa Rakes sept qtr 1884 Swansea vol 11a pg 780 and there is a marriageregistered for Priscilla Louisa Raikes march qtr 1909 Leeds vol 9b pg 541. But she gives her place of birth as Somerset on the 1911 census - she married the Walker male on the same page, although she's about the right age.

The only Priscilla Raikes of the coorect age in 1901 is in the Industrial House for Girls in Ipswich RG13/1773 folio 13 pg 18, but her place of birth is given as 'on the Mediterranean Sea'.

Thanks Osprey. I do have that birth ref. and marriage ref.and there is a link with Somerset, but not with Leeds!  There is no link with Impswich, so I think I can rule it out.
