Mr. J. WIGMORE - Murder.
« on: Saturday 12 March 05 05:52 GMT (UK) »
I have found an article in the Northampton Mercury dated,  Saturday  November  2.  1805.

It reports the murder of Mr. J. Wigmore Sen.,  (Farmer) of Knoyle in Wiltshire.  His body was found on the road between Stockbridge and Winchester after he had been to Winchester Fair with a load of cheese.  He is believed to have been shot on the previous Wednesday with his body being found on the Thursday morning.  He left a widow and 9 children.

Could anyone please tell me which Mr. J. Wigmore this article refers to as I have John's,  James's,  Joseph's and Jacob's.

Any information on him and his Family would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Tuppy.

I see that this is rather an old posting, however, this is part of my tree and I do have some information about what happened to the family after the murder.

:) Evening Russ.... could i be cheeky....... would it be likely that your Gray research could be from the Downton area mid 1800's and eventually moved out to Warminster way.

Hi Cheryl,

My GRAYs seem to start around East and West Stower (18C and 19C) and move to Yeovil.  The main character in my paternal line was born in Acton (London) which was a surprise as the family lived in Yeovil.  From Yeovil (1920s-1930s) the children moved away.  So no connection with Downton or Winchester.

Sorry

Russ

I have just come across your reply to my posting and am not sure whether I replied to you or not.  If not,  my apologies.
I would appreciate any information you may have on this family and the MAIDMENTS as I do have a couple on my Tree.

Regards,
Tuppy.
