1871 Durham census lookup please
« on: Sunday 09 May 04 02:57 BST (UK) »
 :) Hi
Is there anyone who can do an 1871 census lookup for Durham for me?

In 1881 the family was living at
22 White Lee Square, Crook & Billy Lane Durham

in 1871 the family would have been:

William Kellett aged 44 b Bradford Yorkshire
Ann                 aged 34 b Hexham Northumberland
John                aged 7   b Hexham
Margery           aged 3  b Crook Durham
Mary                  b 1871 White Lee Durham

There could possibly be another son Thomas aged 10 ?

Is there an area called White Lee or could this have been the address where they were living.
William was a coal miner.
cheers
Janet

Hi not sure if this is the correct way to respond however I did find a website where I was able to get the information from the 1871 census that I was seeking and thought that it may useful to others

www.durhamrecordsonline.com

It is free to register and search however you do have to pay to obtain the info. I found the cost relatively cheap and the information was emailed to me immediately after payment.

The only payment viable for me was credit card (no problem) but they only accepted English pounds or USA dollars. As I live in Australia I emailed them for options - a reply email was received within 24 hours suggesting that I choose USA dollars as I would get a better exchange rate!!

You can get 'one off' information or buy credits if you will be using the site more often.

Besides census (several) there are also some parish records. The site is well worth a visit if you are seeking ancestors in County Durham.

Cheers
