Abner Joiner death in St Catharines Ontario
« on: Tuesday 01 December 09 20:14 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a death date of Abner Joiner born in 1862 Ireland. He lived at 46 Henry Street St Catharines Ontario and was still there in 1930 when his wife Minnie Agnes died.
Can anyone help?

If he died after 1937 then the record of it has either not be transcribed yet or is still be protected by Ontario privacy laws (from 1939 on I believe are still protected). There is a database for Ontario deaths at the Family Search labs website that has deaths up to 1937 plus some overseas deaths (mostly soldiers from WWII):
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=1202505273409#
Canada: Patterson, Brown, Haidenger/Heidinger, Meyer, Johnston(e), Gorsuch, Kitchin/Kitchen
United States: Patterson, Smith, Brown, Vance, Bower(s), Newberry, Best, Love, Gorsuch
England (Northumberland): Brown, Whitfield, Henderson
Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian): Johnston(e), Bell, Galloway, Campbell, Robertson, Williamson, Thomson, Crawford
Germans from Russia: Haidenger/Heidinger, Meyer, Meach, Lorenz

Thank you for your reply. Have checked Family Search and no record of his death. I am now thinking I should try street directories but where do I get them. Does anyone know???
Once again thanks

Abner's wife Minnie was buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.  You could contact this cemetery and ask for details on her grave marker and see when and if Abner was buried beside her.

The St. Catharines Library should be able to help with street directories.

Cosmac you were right. I wrote to the Cemetary and they very kindly gave me the date which was 2.04.1939 that Abner died.
Thank you all for your help.

I was wondering before this is completed if someone could get me the details of the death registration of Abner Joiner. It would help me with my family tree to know the definite names of his parents.
Very much appreciated.

It's great that you've at least confirmed when and where Abner died and where he and Minnie are buried.  Unfortunately the details of his death will have to wait for a few years.  The 1938 death registrations in Ontario were released for microfilming in 2009 and will be available to the public sometime in 2010.  The 1939 records are still protected under privacy laws.  They will be released in 2010 for microfilming and probably available in 2011.  Of course that doesn't mean that those records would be immediately available online as ancestry.ca databases lag by a few years to what is publically available.  Is there a marriage record for Minnie and Abner  to confirm his parents?

Would the cemetery have a copy of his burial record that might include his parents names?  Of course if the informant at his death was not family they might not have had that information to give at his death.

Emerald Ancestors (pay site)
http://www.emeraldancestors.com/
This shows they hold a marriage record for 1884 in Antrim for Abner Joiner and Minnie Agnes __
If you search under Minnie Agnes Neill you also get the 1884 Antrim marriage to Abner __
If you think this is your couple you could purchase their record to confirm his father.  I only have one connection to Ireland and the marriage certificate I purchased did not include the mother's name nor did the church record.
