lost grandfather
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 16:12 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather Robert Findlater Macdonald (born Glasgow 1901) went to Canada in 1923 leaving behind his wife and my mother (then less than a year old).  In 1929 my grandmother divorced him for adultery, he was then in Vancouver.  That is the last thing we know about him.  I have tried B.C. bmd and there is nothing.  I know about the national registration but don't have an address.  Does anyone have any ideas about how I can find out what happened to him? (It would be really good for my Mum)

Here is the petition for divorce in 1927, but you'll need to send for it to see where he was located at the time:

I didn't see anything close in the death index either...He may have moved elsewhere at any time...
If you know his occupation, he might be found in some Vancouver directories...Can't find any online for that late in the century, though. J.J

thanks for your help - I have the divorce record from the national archives and it does help in that I know he was in Vancouver at that time but I can't find what happened after that.  It seems so weird that my Mum is still alive and does not know what happened to her own Dad!
