Re John Hutchins born in hungerford

Hi I am trying to find out the parents of a John Hutchins born in Hungerford Berkshire around 1793,He married an Ellen anfd they moved to Marlborough Wiltshire where he was a farm bailiff on the Savernake Estate.Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Hello Wendy,

Have you seen this entry on the IGI;
John Fuster Hutchins baptised 14-6-1793 Hungerford
son of John Hutchins & Hannah.
This is an "extracted entry" so reasonable  safe.

Also on the freereg.org site there is a marriage fro;
John Hutchens to Hannah Eldridge 13-9-1789 at St.James, Southbroom,
Wilts.
Not sure if its the right people and have not heard of Southbroom before.
I now see its a parish near Devizes so could be a possibilty.

Hi Wendy,
If you purchase one of the birth certs of the children born post 1837 it will give you Ellens maiden name.

On the 1851 census there are;
Emma 1839
Louisa 1842
John 1845
Frederick 1847

As John is considerably older than Ellen it could be a second marriage. ( or a late first)

As first child on 1851 Census was born 1839 I looked for a marriage pre 1839 in Wilts.

June 1839
New Forest

On the same page is Ellen PETTY

Luckily it looks like he married post 1837 so the Marriage Cert will have both of their Fathers names and Occupations

Ok I have just found John in 1841 Census and seeing there is a gap in childrens ages in my opinion Ellen could be a second wife.
The marriage I found could still be right though .

Hi Trish,Thanks for all this,I will order a birth certificate of their youngest child (my direct ancestor is their eldest child Henry Hutchins who eventually moves to Norwich and is a solicitors clerk there.)the data on it will give me Ellen's maiden name if it is Petty I know that it is a second marriage and she is Henrys step mum. I can also get their marriage certificate to see Johns fathers details.Thank you so much.

You are very welcome Betty.
It is excellent you are willing to get Certs as so many people wont and head down the wrong path.
Get the Birth Cert first as maybe it was not a sceond Marriage.
