Obtaining School Records
« on: Saturday 19 December 09 18:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to access public school records.  In particular Detroit, Michigan for the period between 1920-1940 and who one would contact for that  :-\

Thanks,
Karen

I have access to Detroit Michigan high school yearbooks for about 14 different schools.  You could send me the name or names you are interested in and I will reply via PM if I find anything of interest.

Each state has an office called something like "Office of Public Instruction," then usually each county has an office that answers to them.  The county courthouse should be able to point you in the right direction.
BUMBY in Yorkshire (Leeds, Huddersfield, etc.) and Montana, and related names:  SUTTCLIFFE, BENTLEY, MEADLEY, BARSTOW/BASTOW, MARSDEN ....

BROOK in Yorkshire (Elland area) and Montana, and  related names:  CROSSLAND, OXLEY, ARMITAGE ....

Hi Mer and vcmt,

Thanks for the information.  I googled up "schools" in Detroit and think I found a phone number to start with, hopefully they can direct me to where I need to get to eventually.

Mer, that would be great if you could look her up, I will pm her name to you.

Thanks,
Karen
