Alexander Boyd, Wanganui

Alexander Boyd, Farmer, 45 years, born Ireland, married Jane Bremner (widow of David Bremner, Waverley) at Wanganui on 12 April, 1905. Have been unable to find what happened to him as Jane is a Widow when she dies on 9 June, 1941 at Wanganui. He is not mentioned on her headstone and I would like to tidy up this thread in the family.

There looks to be two or three "possibilities" on the online index for an Alexander BOYD born circa 1860.

1934 - aged 73 - bc 1861

1940 - (78) - bc 1862  ??  EDIT:   This one possibly for a death in Canterbury (Probate record 1940 - Alexander Boyd - ret'd. carpenter - Leeston ?)

1936 - (73) - bc 1863  EDIT - Buried at Dunedin (with "a Janet BOYD")


Hmm ... not mentioned on her headstone  ... but have you checked whether he is buried in another plot at same cemetery (or at another local cemetery) ?

There is also anther ALEXANDER d1944 a 75 Stratford that given dates is eliminated if died before wife

the 1934 one is not on Burial locator

Thank you Althea and Lucy2. You both confirm what I have pondered over. I'll check on the Burial Locator of the NZSG and I'll also follow him up on the Wanganui Electoral Rolls about the time he married to see how long he stayed around.
A few years ago when I started all this a relation on Jane's (Jinny) paternal side said the only time he had heard his mother swear was when she talked about Jane Boyd. He never got to find out what it was all about and I have often wondered if Alexander walked out on her for one reason or another.
In a Wanganui Hussey/Peachey/Forward/Jones Wedding photo of 1918 she is identified but there is no sign or listing of Alexander Boyd.
He may have left NZ so I'll keep Shipping Lists in mind as well.
An elderly relative now in a Rest Home brought this all up as he was wondering 'what happened to Alexander Boyd' so I thought I'd give it another try.

Have looked up Card Index at the Heritage Library and no mention at all about Alexander Boyd, except on Jane's card listing her death, as wife of Alexander Boyd.
