Venn family
« on: Tuesday 22 December 09 03:30 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for anyone who has info on Emily Alexandra Venn.  She was born 8 Jan 1864 in Eastbourne, Brighton, Sussex.  I know she married Eustace Pickett, but I am trying to find who her parent were.  Thank you in advance for your help. cheers, Tracy

I am so sorry for not getting back on here. I am amazed to see so many responses.  After posting this, I sent for her birth certificate for which it shows:
Regis dist - Eastbourne 1864 county of Sussex.
born Emily Alexandra to Henry Venn & Annie Venn formerly Cooper. I am still trying to more info as I met a friend who has has family with the Venn name. I'm sure he is related, but I'm having trouble linking us up. I want to thank all of those who replied to my post.

Hi and welcome to rootschat
We need to make sure your initial facts are correct as Eastbourne and Brighton are two separate places and not particularly close to each other.  You should be able to look on www.freebmd.org.uk to see if there are suitable birth registrations.  You might find the marriage on that site too.   Slinfold is not particularly close to either of them being further north near Horsham.
Regards
Andrea

Edeard and Emily are at Slinfold in 1861 too, he born there she from Ewhurst. The name Venn seems very localised to the area just south of Horsham.
Just to confuse  FreeBMD show Emily Alexandra b Q1 Eastbourne 1864, Emily b Q3 1866  Horsham which is obviously the Slinfold one

Hi all  :)

I see she's shown as born Eastbourne in 1891.

The only girl with surname Venn born 1864 Eastbourne showing in 1881 is a Minnie Venn. Back in 1871, she's Minnie Alexandr*a and I can't see a birth registration for a Minnie Venn ...

1871
RG10/1041 12 18
Eastbourne, Sussex
2 Warrior Square

Annie Venn, head, wid, 37, Laundress, b. Warfield Berkshire?
Harry, son, 17, b. Brighton
Lucy, dau, 12, scholar, b. do.
Frank, son, 10, scholar, b. do.
Louisa Alice, dau, 9, scholar, b. do.
Minnie Alexandria, dau, 7, b. Eastbourne
+ 3 lodgers

Added: Annie's husband was Henry according to the 1861 census, born Sussex Slaugham ca. 1831
