Searching for information on Alexander Black
« on: Tuesday 22 December 09 20:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information about Alexander Black and his family.

He was born around 1806 and died around 1827.

My records indicate that he had a son named Alexander that was born around 1827 and emigrated to Utah.

Thanks for any information that you have.
Black, Price

Can you give us any more information at all?
Do you know the name of the young Alex's mother?
How do you know that he was born in West Lothian?

Could this be his family in 1841 living in Bathgate?
Jean Black, 40, was an Inn Keeper and Spirit Dealer
Alex Black, 20, was a Stationer and Printer, b. Scotland
Christian Black, 20,                                               "
Elizabeth Black, 15,                                              "
Alex Black, 14, b. West Lothian
Don't know why there would be 2 named Alexander.

Since my last posts I have found Margaret on route to New York with 5 children. I expect you have this but if not please let me know. Haven't found Alexander yet.

Can you please send me the details on Margaret, I know that they came to the US but do not have the details.

As for Alexander, the younger one, he did come to the US because he died and was buried in Utah.

I have since done some additional research on Alexander, the older one.  It appears that he was born in Northumberland and married Ann or Agnes Steele about 1826 in Scotland.  So based on this research, I am in the wrong section of the message board.

Thanks for your help.

Hope this is your family.
On 4th Nov 1867 they sailed from Liverpool to New York on the 'Virginia' in steerage.
Margaret was 38, wife, born England. The children were Agnes, 14; Joseph, 8; Mgt, 6; Jane, 4; Alex, 11. All born England.
I haven't found Alexander the father yet. Presumably he went over before them but can't see him in any year around that time. Will have another try! I don't suppose he had any other names? Have you found this family in the 1861 census and if so, what was his occupation? Did they live in New York to begin with as there is an Alexander and Margaret with the above named children living in New York area in 1870 Census. His occupation was a Teamster and, if I have the right family he was a Farmer in Utah.
