Thomas Conboy 88 foot regiment
« on: Wednesday 23 December 09 01:28 GMT (UK) »
Merry xmas to all,

I am searching for the family connections of Thomas Conboy who emigrated to Tasmania as a British Military Pensioner in the early 1850's, I have a number of his papers relating to his service in the 88th foot Regiment (Conaught Rangers), they show his birth in Roscommon but little else relating to his family. He arrived in Tasmania with his wife Jesse (nee Stewart) (married in Scotland 1848) a daughter Mary and George Conboy (no age was listed for George, but I believe George may have  been his son or brother.

Thanks for any help

Thankyou johnroscommon for the info. Unfortunately I probably was not as clear as I could have been, but I am actually looking for info on the Irish family of Thomas Conboy. I have his release parchments and other documents from the 88th foot, but there is no info on his Irish family.
Regards
Liom

This is really old ...But iam related to a thomas Conboy, Quarry owner , Castlerea, Rosscommon Ireland.
He would have had an earlier family as his daughter would have been 17 and married by the date of his marriage to Jesse.
I don't know anything else but will look into it

Hi Liom, from Tasmania Australia...
I.live on the site of an ex military pensioners house circa 1850. Could this be your Conboy?
The house still stands.
