CENSUS/MARRIAGE LOOKUP PLEASE - CUTTS - WEST/EAST RETFORD
« on: Sunday 13 March 05 22:57 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to find a couple GEORGE CUTTS b 1823 West Retford and PATTY (Lambert possibly).

Patty died when their ship 'The Tayleur'  travelling to Australia  was wrecked on the coast of Ireland in 1854.

So, if any one can possibly locate them on the 1851 census or find the marriage that would be brilliant!

Thanks

Hi Sue,
I've had a look around and found this.Don't know if it's of any help.(It's a bit long this so bear with me!)
I went on Ancestry to look up the said George Cutts and there was one with the right dates etc but not married to a Patty.Anyway,He had 4 children, one of whom was called Frank L.Cutts.So I took a wild guess which was that George married again and gave one of his children the second christian name of his late wife(not unknown then). It gave a date of 1865 as his birth so I looked that up on the birth Reg at 1837 online and for the June 1/4 1865 there was a Frank Lambeth CUTTS  born in East Retford.
The gist of this is.If that is your George's son then perhaps Patty's surname was LAMBETH not Lambert.
Sorry that was a bit tenuous.I thought it needed explaining. It was a wild guess and may still be wrong but I just thought the name was very similar and his father's info fitted.
Hope it helps anyway in your search for George's and Patty's marriage.
Best wishes,
Trisha. :)

Hi

Thanks for that.  Might make a difference, I have a little more now on 'Patty' as I have found that her name was actually MARTHA!!!

Why do these ancestors do it to us!  making life difficult!!!

Hopefully, I will find them now!

Here, nine years later, is an interested person! I may have information about a noble thing that George did during and subsequent to the sinking of the RMS Tayleur. He assisted my great-grand uncle in a meaningful way.

Details once we're connected.

It does help! Thank you so much!

This is my first dabble into Roots Chat...and into genealogy in the UK generally, so I do have to decipher some of the data, which I assume comes from tables with labels for name, residence or birthplace, occupation, parent name, etc.

If anyone related to the Cutts has an interest, I have a narrative from my family history that speaks to George's noble character. I have posted it to his "Memories" in FamilySearch.
