Location of Law Gabriel
« on: Monday 28 December 09 17:47 GMT (UK) »
I have a photo taken in 1885 at a house in Perthshire identified as "Law Gabriel." The house was perhaps occupied by Captain Henry K. Lindsay and his bride, Arabella Keiller (m. 24 Sep 1885). I suspect that the photo was taken on their wedding day, or not too very long after.  My question is where the house might have been, and whether it is still standing.
Keiller - Dundee, Perth, Arbroath
Lindsay - Dollar
Thomson - Stirling
Hardie - Stitchell
Dunn - Berwickshire
Huntley - Roxburgshire

Are you sure this is Scotland?  Bare feet, exotic looking plants, building style. Just a feeling.

Certainly the house (wooden) doesn't look very Scottish.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Bare feet wouldn't rule out Scotland, but the house and vegetation look foreign to me too. Is it definitely "Perthshire" and not just "Perth," which might be Perth, Australia?

Thank you all for the keen observations. I agree that the structure doesn't look typical for Scotland, nor does the vegetation. What is odd is that I have another image where the little girl is of the same age and wearing the same outfit, but they are standing in front of a typical stone Scottish house, possibly in Perthshire, possibly in Dollar (Clackmannanshire). I'll need to do more digging to reconstruct the chronology of their lives. As far as I know, they were never in Australia. Susi
