1831 Census????
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 10:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.

I'm interested in finding out whether there is such a thing given b,d,m certificates are only available from 1837?

If they are - are they just numbers of people in homes and places or is the information more specific?

thanks
:)

Yes, there was an 1831 Census but it only survives for a few places.

For some places, such as Marylebone it will provide a surname for the head of the household at an address and numbers of occupants at that address. However, you will not obtain a full list of people.

Essex - Burrell, Thorogood
Norfolk - Alcock, Bowen, Bowers, Breeze, Burton, Creamer, Hammond, Sparkes, Wakefield, Wiggett
North Devon - Burgess, Chalacombe, Collacott, Goss
Northamptonshire - George, Letts, Muscutt, Richardson
Somerset - Barber
Wiltshire - Brine, Burges, Carey, Gray, Lywood, Musselwhite, Perris, Read, Turner, Wilkins

Thankyou nigelp.

Would you know if records for the Aylesbury area around the Bucks/Herts border might exist?
