Deaths/burials in Crawley (Francis/Simpson)
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 13:34 GMT (UK) »
I'm struggling to trace my g-grandfather and g-grandmother on my father's side.
Without this information, i am struggling to go any further into my tree.
My g-grandfather was called James Francis, apparently he had a twin brother called Tom/Thomas? (who i haven't managed to find). They were born in Suffolk.

James Francis married Lilian Simpson in 1920 - Northallerton.

From what i have been told, they both died in Crawley in Sussex.
I think Lilian died Sept 1982 and James died 1980/1981.

I know this isn't really that long ago, but i can't find a thing.
Does anyone know how or where i could find more information on deaths in Crawley, or does anyone recognise the names?

I would be very grateful for any info, without it i can't go any further.

Kim

Hi Kim

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Do you have the marriage certificate for James and Lilian as this would give the fathers names.  (I can't see a likely one in 1920 )

Hi Rosie,

thanks for getting back so quick.

I can find the marriage in Northallerton but not the deaths which is odd.  Can you tie down the dates a bit more?   Did you go to the funerals perhaps?   A death entry will give a date of birth which would be really helpful.  Assuming they were both 21 or so at marriage then we should be able to find them in 1901.  Realistically though you should get their marriage certificate which will give their fathers' names so you are sure you are on the right line.
Does your Dad know their birthdays?
Andrea

Hi

I would think that the only way to track back is to buy the marriage certificate then post the details on here, or try and locate them on the 1911 census.  The death certificates won't give information on place of birth and the date of birth if given on them cannot be guaranteed to be accurate as it is only the date believed to be true by the informant.

Beat me to it Andrea  :)

Found a possible death for James in 1981 in Crawley which gives 7 Jan 1897 as dob.  Worth checking for a birth - especially if there might be a twin to confirm it.

Ok, thanks to both of you for the advice.
I will purchase a marriage certificate. Hopefully that will give me some more info.

It's mainly the Francis side i want to find.

I know James had a twin brother called Tom/Thomas.
Really would like to find his parents.

I know James had a number of children:
Clifford
Edward (Ted)
Olive
Rosemary
Frederick
Gordon
Norman

I will try and order the certificate and post on here when it arrives.

Thanks again
