so nathaniel was the child of samuel and his first wife and she must have died between late in 1848- early 1851

there is a marriage in 1819 in chesterton,cambs of a samuel shelford and elizabeth northfield
maybe this could be samuels parents

maybe not his parents
there is a death of samuel shelford in april qtr of 1881 in orsett aaged 68 so born 1813
which would tie in with his age as being 58 on the 1871 census

I have found death of Susann Shelford in 1949 so it looks like he married Susan Wood in 1847. Now all we need to find is was he living with his parenst and where in the 1814 Census.

there is a death in july qtr of 1849 in orsett of a susanna shelford
so where is nathaniel in 1851
will have another look for him

and i found this maybe his first born was named after his father

i cannot for the life of me find samuel in 1841 or nathaniel in 1851

Hi Wozzle

I find that strange, I checked for a marriage of Nathaniel & Susannah and found one in Southwark in 1797, so I dont think that this is my Samuel.

The problem is there are so many parishes in essex which are not on the IGi you have rely on help from SKS with access to Parish Records in that area.
