My gt gt grandather George Jackson was born abt 1831 in Macclesfield in Cheshire
In 1851 he and his wife Sally were with parents still in Cheshire, in Marple.
By 1861, George was settled in Dodworth, Yorkshire, staying with the Lomases who may be relatives.
Sally and the first two surviving children are still in Marple
George is at this date a coal viewer. This is apparently a senior position in the mine.
At 1871 They are living in North Royd, Dodworth. George is now described as a Colliery Steward
Now I know Sally died in August 1872, and was buried in Dodworth on 14th August 1872.
George has died by 1881 but is definitley not buried in Dodworth.
I found one other reference to him in his grandson's George Jackson Williams' obituary in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour. George was referred as a mining engineer
I would love either to find more about George or at least to know where or when he died
