« on: Sunday 03 January 10 00:21 GMT (UK) »
Looking for ancestors of Alexander Lewers c 1808,Tailor, and Janet Cumming c1806. Birthplace of both said to be "Belton Parish Scotland". Two children, Catherine c1828 and William c1831 were born in Scotland, next child was born 1832 in Lancashire. Appreciate any info.

Hi

Did they remain in Lancashire or did they return to Scotland?

Do you already have all available census information - just so we don't waste time duplicating anything you already have

Hi CaroleW,
All the family stayed in Lancashire and did not return to Scotland. I have them in Salford Lancashire from the England 1851 census onward (1861 as Sewers !). Can't find them in 1841 census but the third child, George b abt 1832 is recorded as born in Lancashire. thanks for your help.

Hi Carole,
HO107; Piece 506; Book 1; Civil Parish Salford; County Lancashire; Enum District 1; folio 6; page 4; line 5.
In 1841 they were in Salford, Salford under the name of Lewis! I can understand why because the writing is very difficult to read and looks like Lewis.
Alexander, 30, Tailor; Jannet, 32; Catherine 13; William, 10; George, 8, Janett, 6; Robert, 4; John, 2; Thomas, 3mo; the first 4, as you say, were born Scotland and the rest were born in the County.
