Death St Heliers: Christopher Bird
« on: Sunday 03 January 10 08:28 GMT (UK) »
Christopher Bird was a shoemaker who was born in Foston,Lincolnshire in 1829.
He married 1855, widower by 1857;1861 census he was still in Southampton.

Somewhere between 1861 and 1867 he married Louisa Messervy from Grouville ,Jersey.
Their first child, Charles was born St Heliers in 1867.
Others included Florence E, Louisa M, and Edward K.

In the 1891 census they were living at Chevalier Rd, St Heliers.
Christopher was a shoemaker aged 61.

In 1901 Louisa is listed as independent.( and no Christopher)

I am presuming he died in between these two dates.

Wondering if anyone can help?

cheers

Hi Cathy

Lots of information for you from the indexes;

Christopher Bird, St Helier deaths, Jul 1885 to Mar 1897, volume 38, page 91.

Christopher Bird, St Helier Parish marriages, Jun 1863 to Aug 1867, page 29. There is a Louisa Mary Messservy on the same page.

The children are all St Helier births:

Charles, 3rd Feb 1866 to 9th Mar 1867, volume 22, page 589
Florence Eleanor, 9th May 1868 to 22nd Jul 1869, volume 24, page 28
Louisa Mary, 22nd Jul 1869 to 5th Oct 1870, volume 25, page 87
Edward Kelam, 26th Nov 1871 to 12th Mar 1873, volume 27, page 20.

Hope that helps.

Stewart

thank you Stewart,
that information certainly helps narrow down the range for both marriage and death of Christopher.
The childrens births and full names are a real bonus!!
I know Charles went on to be a school master and was on the 1901 census, and Edward went to London and became a tailor, the girls I am unsure about.
The next census release may help that quest!!

many thanks
