Twins certificates don't specifically say "TWIN" but they show the time of birth for each twin.
If a certifciate shows the time of birth on it, then it most probably is a twin.
I seem to remember though that Scottish certificates often show the time of birth even when they are not twins.

For people born in England and Wales, the above definately applies.

Also, they will usually be consectively numbered in the indexes.  So if you see two same suranme consecutive numbers you are possibly looking at twins :)

Many baptismal registers will say 'twin' to show that it is not just two siblings being baptised on the same day. This is from the days before the dob was entered. However you should not rely on this being done in every case.

Some parish registers may have the latin "gemini" or "geminus" to indicate twins - I have one such record from as late as 1831.

Hi Doris

I am a twin and on my birth certificate 1967 it does have the normal details but it does have the time of birth like claudia99 says.I think it appears in my baptisim details though but my mum can't remember.I also have twins and they too have the time on their certificates so it is the done thing for twins.and on their baptism certificate it does say twin.but i don't know if tis applies in all churches.
Hope this helps a little.

Hi Doris

Birth certificates vary for different countries .  I'm a twin and my birth certificate states "elder of twins".

It is a Victorian (Australia) birth certificate and of course also lists my older siblings.  My certificate does not list my twin sister but hers lists me.  ;)

Cheers
Genni
