McCallum
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 14:26 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate any family of Barbara Ann McCallum and Gavin
Rankin Meikle McCallum, her husband.  They migrated to Montreal in 1911.
Barbara died in 1939 and Gavin in 1945 and they are both buried in Mount
Royal Cemetery.
They had two surviving children, a son and a daughter.
The son worked for CPR and appears to have been in Montreal up until
1965.
I have written to 6 McCallum's in the Montreal area to no avail.
I would like to contact any descendants and wonder whether anyone can
help me with further information.
Barbara would have been my relation and they came from Glasgow.
Thanks for any help.
Ian

Have you gotten a picture of their gravestone?

A common practice at that cemetery (and probably elsewhere) is to inscribe the names of family for the future to save money on inscribing when a person dies.  I know that when my grandfather was buried there in 1960, his siblings' names and my grandmother's names were put on with 19 for the beginning of the date.  I remmeber that because it was a problem with my grandmother died in 2004 - we had to remove the `19'.

Maybe if you can get a picture, it will have the names of the people you are looking for.

I will be visiting the cemetery when I am there in June, but not before then.  If I have time when I am there, I can take a picture if you haven't gotten it done beforehand.  I will have one day in the cemetery and I have about 100 tombstones to find - don't know if I will have time for another, but I can try.   If you want me to, please PM me in June, as I won't remember otherwise.

Good morning,

Have to contacted the Cemetery administration, they may be able to give you that info. If not, they may be able to contact a family member for you to have him or her contact you. You may want to contact the CPR for that info - not sure if CPR is based in Montreal or Vancouver. Hope this helps,

You may want to contact the CPR for that info - not sure if CPR is based in Montreal or Vancouver.

The CPR's head office is in Calgary. I'm not sure if they will release personnel files as they are likely covered by privacy laws but you would have to contact them to find out for sure.
