John Edmonds Bayliss -1877
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 22:43 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace John born 30 May 1877 Stratford Essex England.Father John Bayliss and mother Mary Ann Chappell. In 1891 he was living with parents in Chelsea London.
There is WW1 draft registration Twin Falls Idaho that seems to match my English info.Problem is that the census info and passenger list info do not match. The 1920 census says that he immigrated 1887 and the most likely passenger says he is German.

Hi Edcan

I think I have found the passenger list that you mention, I have double checked the same list from the English end and it says he is English, aged 18 and a messenger.  Hope that helps.

Thanks Tressle. Now to figure out if the passenger list and the census are the same person
Obviously if the census is correct then they are not.

The rest of the census records seems to be more consistent with 1895/6 as the immigration date, so I would chalk up the 1920 date as a fluke.  My husband had an ancestor who gave a different year of immigration in each census record, so it wouldn't be the first time there wasn't perfect matches on there.

Thanks Shelly.I have gone on that assumption and managed to trace him through to his death in 1939 with the exception of his marriage abt 1897.
