Florence Williams, Dorstone 1879
« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 21:34 GMT (UK) »
My grandmothers 1903 birth certificate shows only her mother as being a Florence Williams.
In the 1901 census,  Florence Williams is detailed as living with my great grandfather and being born at Dorstone ab1879.  I have found several birth records for Florence Williams, Herefordshire in 1879 but the Dorstone connection is confusing.  Any suggestions?

Hi joy4noel

Happy New Year and
Welcome to Rootschat
    :)

Sorry, I'm just a little bit confused by the relationships in your message - can you clarify?

1901:  Florence WILLIAMS 22, b Dorstone - a servant in Glamorganshire
RG13/ Piece: 5021/ Folio: 126/ Page: 71
She's the only WILLIAMS in the house - the rest of the houehold is her employer family (THOMAS)

1903: Grandmother is born (where?)  - her mother is  Florence WILLIAMS .   Presumably, no father listed on the certificate?

What do you mean by: Florence left Grandmother (b 1903) in care of Grandfather?? This is the bit that's confusing me   I see you've edited it  ;D  to in care of great grandfather.  Who is the Great-Grandfather?

Cheers

Have you had a look at the 1911 census entry for Hannahian Thomas (the chap who Florence was with in 1901)?  He now appears to have been married for 7 years to Mary Maria (born c. 1879 in Dorstone, Herefordshire..........)

Could Florence really be Mary?

I don't know about awake Ambly - I'm thoroughly bemused now!

Right.  Dorstone is in Hay reg. district.  Both Florence and Mary Maria appear to be born in about 1879, so looking for them +/-5 years:
Mary Maria Williams bn Sept qtr 1878 Hay 11b 143
Flora Williams bn Mar qtr 1880 Hay 11b 135
Elizabeth Florence Williams bn Sept qtr 182 Hay 11b 132

I haven't been able to find which Florence Williams is the my great grandmother from the various Florence Williams listed as being born in herefordshire in 1879 because Dorstone does not appear in any of the records and this seems to be the only distinguishing feature.

Looking to see if there is a connection between Mary Maria and Florence.

Mary Maria Williams is with her parents (William Benj. and Mary Ann Williams) and 5 siblings in Clifford in 1891 RG12; Piece: 4580; Folio 100; Page 3 (she has been indexed as aged 19, but I think she is actually aged 12).  Unfortunately none of the siblings are Flora/Florence  ::)

Erm  :-\

Search parameters: Flo* Williams bn Herefordshire +/-2 1879

In 1891 there are 6:
Florence Williams parents Frederick and Anne bn c.1878 bn St Martin,
Florence Williams father: James  bn c. 1878 Evesbatch,
Florance Williams parents: William and Martha bn c. 1879 Pudleston,
Florence Williams mother: Emily bn c. 1879 Brobury, Herefordshire,
Florence Emily Williams parents: Samuel and Emily bn c. 1879 Hereford,
Flora Williams parents: James and Sophia bn c.1880 Herefordshire,

In 1901 'our' Florence is with Hananiah, leaving us with 4 others.
Florence with parent Emily, Florence from Pudleston and Florence with Samuel and Emily can definitely be discounted.

This leaves us with:
Florence Williams parents Frederick and Anne bn c.1878 bn St Martin,
Florence Williams father: James  bn c. 1878 Evesbatch,
Flora Williams parents: James and Sophia bn c.1880 Herefordshire,
