Hi and welcome to RootsChat

Where did you get your information from?

If you give us her name and anything else you know (parents, siblings etc) we might be able to help you find out more - we like a challenge  :)

Hi and thanks for the rapid reply . . Her name was Mary Wilson and she was born in 1864 . . the information about her birth place I got from the 1911 Census . .She married William Laird my great grandfather who came from Airdrie Lanarkshire according to the same Census record . . This states they had been married for 29 years and had 6 children some of whose names I recognie from my father discussing them years ago.. They lived in Woodbine Terrace Blyth Northumberland. However my Grandfather Alexander who was their 5th child was born inDewsbury in 1896.
I am having some difficulties linking them both with their Scottish roots . . hence the info on Edderton Mains Berwickshire is the only current link I have for Mary.  I am busy searching for a marriage date to try to get more info . . I think they were married around 1882 but I do not know where . . any help would gratefully received . . thanks . . have to go to bed now but will log on tomorrow in case you need any more info . .

Forgot to mention the census actually states my grandfather was born in Crofton Blyth . .  but his birth certificate clearly states Dewsbury . . and all the info ties up . . I am not sure if they were away when Mary delivered Alexander or if they lived in Dewsbury but on the 1901 census they were in Richard Street Blyth and Alexander was 5yrs old then. . thanks . .

Try Edington Mains Farm, near Chirnside. This is the farm which was run by the late, great racing driver Jim Clark.

Just as a point of interest - in 1901 & 1891 Mary is shown as being born in Scotland.  I know Berwick kept changing hands between the English and the Scots, but I'm not sure where it was cliamed to be in 1864   :)
