Bishops Transcripts Grantham
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 05:15 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone please tell me where I can purchase on-line a copy of the Bishops Transcripts, Church of England, Grantham, Lincolnshire 1562-1835.  There isn't an LDS branch anywhere near me, maybe I could purchase a copy of it through them on-line but I don't know how.

You can't purchase them online.
You need to apply to Lincolnshire Archives.

Be aware that you will probably only be able to buy them as fiche, certainly not on paper.

Thanks Pam, I was afraid of that.  I do have access to a fiche reader fortunately. Just checking there wasn't some way to order them online and save a bit of time.

Cheers

I am a little curious as to why you want BTs and not PRs, as the PRs are usually the more accurate register. Is it because you've already seen the PRs, and now just want to check the BTs for any differences?

Hi Pam, all I have seen so far are the IGI extracts so just wanted to verify those and also see if there is more info that hasn't been transcribed.  When I looked on the Lincolnshire link you gave me I checked if they had those PRs which were referred to on IGI, which they have. Its an awful messy way of obtaining copies though as you have to send the FH Society a signed order, then wait for a confirmation and quote, then sometimes they require an international bank cheque (I'm in Australia) and it takes ages.  Guess I just got a bit spoilt having the Durham BTs on line and thought there might be something similar for Lincolnshire.

Hi Anny

Are you looking for any special names in Grantham 1562-1835? if so if you can give names and any other info you have I can have a look at the PRs in Grantham library when it reopens afer refurbishment in just over a weeks time.

Thanks heaps Cathy, the name I'm following is Willmer/Wilmer. Gggrandfather was Charles Willmer born c.1828 the IGI has him baptised 16.12.1828 with parents Charles Willmer bapt 21.7.1799   (a gunmaker I think) and Emma Stanton c1803.  I think the parents of Charles Snr may be John Willmer and Ann Clark who were married 22.12.1785.  From the IGI these two later couples seem to have had big families, too big to bother you with. Fingers crossed you are not snowbound over there, we're seeing some amazing news footage here.
