john walsh born c.1861
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Would it be possible to check if a John (Considine) Walsh was born in Guernsey around 1861.  I have him on a 1911 English census with his birthplace as Guernsey.

Many thanks

Jenny

Although the 1911 shows him b Guernsey - the 1901 shows Ireland and several of his older children were born in Ireland

Looking at the age difference on the 1901 entry Bridget must be a second wife

Can I just make a comment ? ....

I've found that if the family is a military family - many times the child is born in one place and baptised in another .. hence the difference in place of birth !

One of mine was born in Ireland but baptised in St Helier Jersey ! (the census took turns on his birthplace !)

Thanks for the replies.  Yes I had looked at the 1901 census and I think I have found a marriage for John and Bridget in Ireland in 1893.  I intend to send off for certificate.  If he is from a military family maybe the marriage certificate will give his fathers profession.  On the 1911 census, which gives his birthplace as Guernsey, the details had been filled in by John Walsh himself which rather intrigued me.  Is it likely that if he had been born in Guernsey, in 1861 or thereabouts, that there will be a record?  Was there a military presence in Guernsey at this time?
