LILY MAY PHILLIPS 1924+

Trying to find out what became of my aunt Lily May Phillips. Below is detail from her marriage certificate.

William Carmel Poustie ‘seaman’ unmarried,  married  Lily May Phillips,  age 23, Spinster, of 24 Bute Street, in the Register Office,  on 23 Sept 1924 district of Cardiff/Caerdydd
Daughter of George Phillips (deceased) Brick Layer.
Registrar J T Lindsley. Deputy Supt. Registrar Robert Hyd
Witnesses Robert Zammit and F. L. A. Zammit

William C. Poustie died at sea WW2 on Sept 1941. At that time his next of kin was his mother.  I have complete records up to 1995 of all Poustie births, marriages and deaths.  Lily May Poustie is not in them.  Before the start of WW2  William Poustie was on the Blue Funnel Line working / sailing to Sth America for many years.

Did he take her there and seperated ? Did they divorce or just broke up ?  Did she died period 1924 -- 1941 ?   Could she have remarried under her Phillips name ?

I did find Lily May Phillips in the 1901 Census, aged a few months. Dont know if she had any siblings.

Just reading over your post Bill, and thought I would mention that it may be worth your contacting the Guild of One Name Studies http://www.one-name.org/ regarding your BMD's of Poustie's. I see that no one has registered the surname as a one name study as of yet.

Perhaps they would be interested in preserving your BMD's for future researchers if you are not interested in pursuing such a study yourself?

I hope you find information on Lily May. Have you tried searching for her in the relevant area in the Voter's lists / electoral rolls during the period 1924 - 1941 ?

I think I made an error. Her marriage cert states she was born 1901.  See the detail below showing 2 births March qtr 1901 :

Phillips Lily May  1-1901  ref  11a  666  in Pontypridd  (abt 7 mls s-w of Gilfach  / Pontypridd

1901 census also lists 2

It seems that this is my Lily May. Of course she wont be in the 1901 Census.  Three of them born same year.

Obtaining her birth cert is not going to be of any help.

Don't know whether you ever found Lily after 1924 but I found a possible marriage in 1955 of Lilian M Poustie and Frederick J Wiggins. Ref: Cardiff 8b 340.

Hi Rover,  I notice on your interests you are researching Sultana in Malta.  Is this family connected to Lily May Phillips in Cardiff?  Reason being, I am searching for a ^(*) Sultana lived in Cardiff in early 1960s and wondered if there was a link.  Thanks.

Phillips in Wales and Sultana in Malta are both distantly linked.

Phillips is on my family and Sultana is on my wife's family.

I have no data on your ^(*) Sultana.
